Adsis offers support to concerned others; this can be anyone who is concerned about someone else's alcohol and/or drug use.

It can be very upsetting if someone close to you is drinking heavily and/or misusing prescribed or illegal drugs. Neither you nor anyone else can make someone stop drinking and/or using drugs, but you can encourage and help them to make changes.

More importantly, you need to look after your own health and well-being. Adsis supports a harm reduction approach; this is not just for users of a substance, but also for the family, friends and colleagues. Remember, harm reduction is just as important to the family.

Adsis can provide family members with information and advice as well as education around alcohol/drug misuse. Families can receive one to one structured support sessions to help with areas such as, boundaries, communication, dangers of withdrawal from alcohol/drugs, goal setting, self esteem and confidence building. We can give you links to other support agencies for example domestic violence support groups and in some localities, access to group work.

Our service aims to provide the following to Concerned Others:

  • A free and confidential service.
  • One to one appointments for anyone who would like to talk about their worries and concerns. This can include support for under 18s.
  • The opportunity for people to talk through problems and anxieties with someone who is willing to listen. This can be arranged at a suitable location.
  • Links to other support agencies.
  • A variety of Complementary Therapies are available.
  • Help for those who would like to establish a self-help/support group.
  • An opportunity for you to voice your views and concerns, which may benefit the needs of the local community.
